The Why:
Carrington’s Vision for the Whole-School Curriculum
Our unique children deserve an inclusive, holistic curriculum that shapes them as confident, inquisitive and proud individuals. At Carrington, children know that they matter, they are important and that they bring something to this world that no-one else can.
Through purposeful, broad and rich experiences, we aim for every child to leave us with an empowered voice and a life-long passion for learning, equipped with the skills to go on and be compassionate and active citizens both locally and beyond.
We believe in an ambitious, knowledge-rich curriculum because children are empowered by knowing things. The specifics of what children learn matter and subject traditions are respected, providing the vital inspiration, challenge and confidence to determine their own future.
Carrington’s Vision for RE
Religious Education has an important part to play in promoting the spiritual, moral, social, cultural and intellectual development of our pupils and in helping them to gain a greater understanding of themselves and an awareness of the beliefs and traditions of others. This enables pupils to develop empathy and be better equipped to cope with the responsibilities and experiences of adult life.
The teaching of R.E. is a child centred, exciting journey and pupils are given the opportunity to ask questions and reflect on their own feelings and experiences. Thinking skills are developed through child-led philosophical discussions and opportunities for reflection on shared common beliefs.
Children will learn to understand the world and their place in it, know that all members of the school community show respect and tolerance for others and develop a better cultural awareness.
RE is taught by starting from the pupils’ own life experiences and relating these to similar or different experiences of other people in the local community and in the wider national and international community.
