The Why:
Carrington’s Vision for the Whole-School Curriculum
Our unique children deserve an inclusive, holistic curriculum that shapes them as confident, inquisitive and proud individuals. At Carrington, children know that they matter, they are important and that they bring something to this world that no-one else can.
Through purposeful, broad and rich experiences, we aim for every child to leave us with an empowered voice and a life-long passion for learning, equipped with the skills to go on and be compassionate and active citizens both locally and beyond.
We believe in an ambitious, knowledge-rich curriculum because children are empowered by knowing things. The specifics of what children learn matter and subject traditions are respected, providing the vital inspiration, challenge and confidence to determine their own future.
Carrington’s Vision for D&T
D&T offers children the tools to confidently perform practical tasks in an increasingly technical world. It is a practical, creative and applied subject which incorporates a range of skills and knowledge from the wider curriculum. Evaluation of past and present design develops a critical understanding of its impact on daily life and the wider world.
The importance of food and nutrition provides children with the fundamental life skills, learning how to cook whilst maintaining a healthy and balanced diet. Children will learn about the cultural significance of foods both from their own culture and beyond, providing that importance balance of windows and mirrors. Children also learn about the sustainability of food sources and materials and the choices we can make to look after the environment.
Children will learn to think like engineers; researching and drawing on inspiration from a diverse range of influential people to design innovative, authentic and functional products for a variety of purposes and users. The knowledge and practical skillset our children will obtain will enable them to become resourceful, enterprising and capable citizens.
