The Online Safety Curriculum

“Children and young people need to be empowered to keep themselves safe… Children will be children – pushing boundaries and taking risks. At a public swimming pool, we have gates, put up signs, have lifeguards and shallow ends, but we also teach children how to swim” (Dr Tanya Byron: Safer Children in a Digital World).

At Carrington, empowering our children to be responsible digital citizens who can use and enjoy online devices safely is a top priority. We use and adapt the Digital Citizenship Curriculum from ‘Common Sense Education’ to ensure children learn the knowledge and skills to think critically and develop the habits of mind to navigate digital dilemmas in their everyday lives.

This curriculum is delivered through six core topics. Each half-term, each topic is delivered through lessons in the classroom as well as Key Stage assemblies.
