Class 1

Tuesday 14th July

If you are working at home today have a look at the reading comprehension folder or choose from activities based on the story of the gingerbread man.

There are also new reading comprehensions in the reading comprehension file.  One about elephants for children reading at expected level and above (orange, turquioise, gold readers).

A transport one for children working towards.

English Expected:

Gingerbread man project.  You can choose from the activities in the folder or make your own lolly stick puppets and have fun telling the story.

English Working Towards:

Gingerbread man project.  You can choose from the activities in the folder or make your own lolly stick puppets and have fun telling the story.

Whiterose is focusing on telling the time this week.  The worksheets are in the file named Year 1 week 12.

Maths Expected

Maths Working Towards – please do the first page of each of the day’s activities and then continue if your child is working confidently.

The pictures in our English book, The Journey’ are beautiful.  Could you draw, collage or paint your own amazing city?

Children will have a reading book in school but they won’t be bringing it home each day so please continue to use the abacus bug club books and oxford owl books for reading at home.

There is a London powerpoint with activities on it this week and a link to some Greek folk dance for you to try.

The music service has extended the deadline for their Bathethandaza project.  Follow the link it you would like to be involved in the video!

There is an experiment about paper helicopters in the folder this week.  I think it goes very well with our story.

Telling the time resources

I know some people have finished all their abacus books.  This link gets you to lots and lots more.  The book colour levels are the same as the levels we use in school.  You have to register to access the books but they are free once you have done that and there is lots and lots of books to choose from.

If you are working at home this week, we would like you to watch the ‘Letters and sounds’ videos each day and complete the activities using a pencil/pen and paper. The link below will take you to daily lessons. The year 1 lesson is at 10.30 but there is also a revision lesson at 10am which would be useful for children currently doing the ‘working towards’ homework. Here is the link:

The phonics is very thorough but if your child is finding it hard to focus on them at home please use dojo to let me know and we can try a different approach.

Spelling Folder – Please use the First 100 High Frequency Words list to work out which words your child needs to learn next.  You can do this by giving your child a spelling quiz or by making a judgement based on the writing you have seen them do.   If your child knows all of the first hundred words please move on to the next set (spelling extension list).

MUSIC – we are doing so well on the inter-school music challenges!  Let’s try and all learn the Mr Miller song so we can do it in singing assembly when we get back.  Follow the link and click on lessons without instruments.

Get Active

Joe Wicks, the body coach, is running a PE session every morning between 9:00 and 9:30 on his YouTube channel.  We could all do this together!

Oti Mabuse (from Strictly Come Dancing) is also streaming live dance classes (at 11.30am daily):
